![]() Henogen, a spin-off from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) set up in 2000, became a pharmaceutical company in its own right in 2002. Its speciality is transplants. The company has three original medicines, which are derived from biotechnology, at various stages of clinical development. The first of these is intended to prevent problems linked to transplants in children and has received an Orphan Drug designation. The second (under licence) prevents hepatic problems in dialysis patients. The third results from the acquisition, in 2004, of the Dutch company ImmunoToko and aims to guard against rejection phenomena during organ transplants. Henogen also has two production centres, in Gosselies and Seneffe. In addition to developing its own medicines, the company produces customised clinical lots for Belgian and foreign clients, enabling it to generate immediate revenue. This revenue goes towards the maintenance of its tools and human resources; any surplus is entirely given over to the clinical development of the company’s new medicines. AWEX
